Black Blueberry Confettura: 4 Ways to Serve It Beyond Yogurt

Black blueberry confettura is one of the least-used preserves in Italy compared to strawberry, apricot, and sour-cherry. A shame — the black blueberry has an intense flavour and a lightly astringent note that makes it one of the most intriguing ingredients in the Italian pantry.

Our extra black blueberry confettura is made with whole black blueberries cooked with sugar. No industrial pectins, no colourants, no preservatives. The dark colour isn’t artificial — it’s the natural hue of concentrated black blueberry.

Four ways to use it.

1. On plain yogurt — the classic, done right

The most obvious route, and when done well, the most satisfying. Thick Greek yogurt in a bowl, two spoonfuls of black blueberry confettura, a handful of crunchy granola or muesli.

Variation: add a scattering of lightly toasted flaked almonds. Winter twist: shavings of 70 % dark chocolate.

2. Over fior di latte or vanilla gelato

A five-minute dessert. Two scoops of fior di latte or vanilla gelato in a cup, two spoonfuls of black blueberry confettura on top, a few almond shards. Looks simple, tastes restaurant-level.

If you want something more composed: add a few fresh berries — blueberries, currants, strawberries — and a mint leaf.

3. With aged cheeses and blues

Black blueberry is one of the few red fruits that pair beautifully with aged cheeses. Its astringent edge balances the richness of long-aged wheels and blue veins.

On a cheese board: a sliver of aged pecorino, a wedge of sweet gorgonzola, a piece of taleggio, a small bowl of black blueberry confettura. Whole-grain bread or seeded crackers.

The pairing with gorgonzola, in particular, is one of those sweet-savoury classics Italians know by heart and and that always surprises guests.

4. Quick dessert: panna cotta with blueberry

For four servings: 400 ml fresh cream, 50 g sugar, vanilla, 6 g soaked gelatine. Warm the cream, sugar and vanilla without boiling. Melt the gelatine. Pour into cups, chill for three hours.

At serving time, a generous spoonful of black blueberry confettura over each panna cotta. A mint leaf if you have it.

For toast and bagels

An Anglo-Saxon classic that works beautifully in Italian form. Bagel or toasted bread, a veil of spreadable fresh cheese, a spoonful of black blueberry confettura. Snack or speedy breakfast.

Storage

Once opened, keep in the fridge. It keeps well for four to six weeks. Always use a clean spoon.

The full sweet line

To explore the artisanal confetture in their full range, the Sweet Awakening kit includes black blueberry confettura plus five others from the line.

If you love dark fruits, try the wild-berry confettura too — a blend of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and currants.

The entire range is in the confetture and marmellate collection.
